Hi everyone, this weeks AMFisH fishing vlog is about utilizing those strong winds for fishing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u09cukwHk-E&feature=player_embedded
Turn your volume up when watching this video, it was extremely windy and even with the wind sock I made for my video camera the wind still managed to try and sound my voice out. The content was good so I decided to air this video even with the patchy sound spots.
I have written about this before and decided it was important to communicate it in a video, that way you can all see how to approach fishing in very strong wind.
It’s extremely difficult to fish on those crazy windy days, especially in a boat so the trick it to resort to the fishing style you can actually enjoy. This involves finding a good pocket in the wind tunnel and trying to stay there.
Once you find that magic spot your boat can drift along the shoreline as you cast with the wind and retrieve back, keep in mind that on very windy days big schools of baits fish will be pushed along various areas of the lake so confusing your bait within those schools can result in some great catches!
If you are casting from shore forget about casting into the wind, save yourself the headaches of the wind controlling your bait/casts, turn the other way and cast with the wind slowly moving around the lake always casting with the wind.
This way your will get some very long casts with the help of the wind and hopefully run into some fish.
Hope you found the video helpful!

Hi AMFisHERS still in this early spring stage and thought I would share some more fishing tips with all of you! Due to the weather still being relatively cool especially the overnight temps, there is no need to get up very early to be at the lake for 7:00am.
Best way to treat this time of year when it comes to fishing is with a later start in the morning, that way the water has warmed up and the day has finally broken to the sun coming up.
Sure you can hit the water very early when it is still very cool and you may catch a fish or two BUT the real fishing usually starts when the water starts to warm up and the fish start to move around more quickly.
It’s almost like fishing in the early fall when the weather starts to get cold, hitting the lake very early will only result in some frustration as to why you can’t catch fish.
Enjoy some extra sleep for the month of May and keep an eye on those evening temperatures, as long as they stay cool you sleep in the next morning, should they forecast warmer evenings then you can start to fish earlier and earlier.
Take your time enjoy those spring mornings and when you see that sun is starting to rise finish that coffee and toast for a few more minutes then take your time heading to the lake, you may be shocked at the fish catching result of those later starts.

Hi AMFisHERS ! I have been meaning to write about this topic as most people kind of don’t know what to do when it comes to power and setting the hook.
I have watched many fishing shows over the years, read “many” magazines as well and in the end I do disagree with certain things others have said about setting the hook.
I will say I have yanked the hook out of the mouths of more fish my over torqueing my hook set and from then on I thought to myself why the hell am I setting the hook so damn hard.
Well the answer was simple that is what so many pro fisherman had said over the years, now granted they are pros but also fish for a living meaning they truly try to ram that hook right into the fish in fear they will lose it if they don’t.
If you take a close look at the mouth of a fish you will notice that most of the front area punctures easily and tends to tear easily as well, big problem if you set the hook too hard, a big hole around the hook means a fish can potentially escape.
Second problem with an extremely hard hook set is that we can’t really see what the fish is doing below the water, it could be chewing on the bait feeling it out, it could be gasping trying o spit the bait out and a massive hook set at the wrong time will pull the bait right out.
I have told many people the average person can generate a lot of torque on a fishing rod that is designed to feed off out power and generate even more power, so a good hook set is important BUT there is not need to pull back like you are like you are trying to lift a car off the ground. I honestly think that will do more harm then good to that entire situation.
On hard strikes from a fish I make sure I give the rod a few taps towards me, that ensures I put the hook in a good secure way. On a light bite I suggest you do the same thing, the fish may not be hooked well yet so a few good strength taps towards you on the underside of the rod will do the trick.
In heavy cover around sunken trees, thick weeds that sort of stuff sure you can use some good power but no need to crank on that rod with 1000%, remember it’s just a fish we are setting the hook into not a concrete wall!
Hope this post was helpful, chat soon everyone…

Drove over five hours to watch my pro fighter friends fight tonight in Quebec Canada, took this picture just before he was ready to leave for the arena this afternoon.
Nothing like a “huge” positivity moment before he is off to battle!

Happy Friday AMFisHERS ! This weeks AMFisH fishing vlog is about some tips of what to have with you when landing big fish: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=T12JyVCy8FY
Don’t mind those pesky zoom moments in this video, button was use when it should not have been used but I decided to air this video anyway due to it having some good content in it for you
I am sure most of you have had a big toothy critter on the line before and the fight sure is great until you get them to the boat and scratch your head on how do I get this fish in the boat.
Well I have been fishing for big pike and musky for several years now and wanted to share some tips with all of you. First thing is you need to be prepared or things will not be easy.
You will need either a large landing net(bigger the better) or a cradle, both work well but I have resorted to a cradle because I will it is more of a confined space for the fish, which almost always keeps it in an upright position. Whatever you use remember to not fight big fish for a long time, they are sensitive so enjoy the fight but try to land them quickly.
Also remember that a fish can only hold it’s breath for about as long as the average human can(20 to 35 seconds and that pushing it) so once the fish is in the net or cradle, submerge it under water if you need more time to get the hooks out.
You will also need a good pair of gloves, fish have that slimy coating making it difficult to grip them, BUT always wet your glove and that slimy coating is a protective shield so you don’t want to be removing too much of it.
Have a good long pair of strong pliers, along with some bolt cutters which will come in handy should you not be able to get a hook out. Instead of risking the fishes life or potentially killing it, snap that hook and set it free as you can always replace a hook on a bait.
Having all of these items with you will make things significantly easier and you will start landing more of those bigger catches. Also keep in mind that when it comes to big fish you definitely need a second pair of hands to help out, I am a pretty big guy but let me tell you when that monster fish get close to the boat everything all of a sudden seems difficult as there instantly is so much to be done so make sure to have a good friend along to help out.
Hope this video was helpful and I wish you all some big catches this year!

Hellooooooo AMFisHERS ! This weeks AMFisH fishing vlog is about the wear and tear of baits: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxjLRBwim7w&feature=player_embedded
Don’t mind the bad zoom in this video my friend that was shooting was not aware the zoom on my camera did not work from a far distance. We tend to use baits time and time again BUT do you take a look at them to see if they are in good working order ? Honestly most people don’t and end up losing a fish of a lifetime because an O ring split open, a spinnerbait snapped in half, a hook point broke off, it could be anything.
It is very important to check each bait you used after a days fishing, you will be able to save money in the long run by having to replace that bait if you examine it carefully and take care of anything that needs to be fixed or replaced.
Unfortunately baits do have a shelf life or usage life, that is something we are fishing people need to understand BUT we can prevent them from aging too quickly by taking a few minutes to look at them.
We all lift a fish in the boat from time to time and that kind of weight on a smaller bait or spinnerbait can easily push the baits bend motion past a limit, so get the fish to the boat and used your hand or net to land them.
Hope this video added some value to all of you.

Two reasons why I chose to reblog this photo, first is because there is a bass in the picture, secondly because I can’t draw much of anything so I kind of envy people that can draw like this probably did this is several seconds and it looks pretty cool !
Pass this one around as a respect thing to all those blessed with this cool talent/skill.

It is sure hard to beat a great dinner with an amazing person ! Caught up with my long time friends niece over a catch up dinner, pretty cool I must admit as I have known her since she was born and is now a strong young woman doing some wonderful things with her life !
Spend more time seeing what you should be seeing and not what you want to see, you might actually surprise yourself.

Looking for some good lipless crankbaits ? Take a look at these the next time you are in your local fishing store, made by XCalibur. These are really great shallow running lipless crankbaits that come in a few different models with respect to type of sound they give off from the rattles inside.
Either models work and work well, these caught me fish right out of the package!

Hello AMFisHers ! This weeks AMFisH fishing video blog is “ALWAYS” watch the weather: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=II2ckwilUbo&feature=player_detailpage
I shot this video on a summer day last year and to my surprise the day turned faster then I could react to. I actually had to stop fishing as the lake and waves were all over the place, not to mention the wind “wow” what a wind as you will see in this vide.
Videos like this are important for all you AMFisHers to see, WHY well I have had my share of bad days on the water over the last 21 years of fishing and I can tell you that trying to move faster then weather is pretty much impossible.
Keep and eye out all the time for changing wind direction, water going from calm to rough out of the blue, clouds rolling in, clouds becoming dark and full on the bottom, pressure changes, all of the above.
Most important rule for me is staying safe and keep everyone safe, that way we can all enjoy many more fishing days!
Hope this video adds some value…
